Next up is Joely Gilding, who joined our Underwriting, Claims & Broking team in May 2025.

What attracted you to recruitment and, specifically, to HFG?

I’ve always been interested in a people-facing career where I could build relationships and have a direct impact on others. Recruitment stood out to me because of how rewarding it can be, both personally and professionally. With over 20 years experience, I was particularly drawn to HFG because of its presence and established reputation in the insurance market.

How did you find the onboarding process, and what stood out to you in your first few weeks?

The onboarding process was very straightforward and structured, which helped me settle in quickly. Everyone was approachable and happy to help from day one, which made a huge difference.

What has been the biggest learning experience for you since joining?

One of the biggest learning curves has definitely been understanding the recruitment process as well as getting to grips with the insurance sector. There’s so much to take in, but every day I’m learning something new that helps me improve and feel more confident in my role.

How would you describe the company culture at HFG?

The culture at HFG is genuinely welcoming and collaborative. From my first day, I felt like part of the team. Everyone is supportive, approachable, and keen to help each other succeed. There’s a great balance between working hard and having fun.

Have there been any standout moments or highlights in your time here so far?

Meeting my first candidate in person. It was a valuable experience where I learned a lot, not just about the candidate’s background, but also how to handle those interactions confidently and professionally.

What’s the best piece of advice you’ve received from a colleague?

To focus on building meaningful, long-term relationships rather than chasing quick wins. It’s those connections that often lead to future opportunities.

If you could give advice to someone considering a career in recruitment, what would it be?

Only get into recruitment if you’re highly motivated by success and financial reward. You need that drive to consistently go above and beyond.

What’s something people might not know about you?

From the ages of 5 to 12, I competed internationally as a gymnast.

If you weren’t in recruitment, what do you think you’d be doing?

I would probably like to be an air stewardess as I enjoy travel. It's also a customer-facing role visiting different parts of the world!

How do you maintain a good work-life balance?

I make sure I spend quality time with family and friends outside of work, and I try to switch off properly in the evenings or on weekends.
