At HFG, we believe that the journey of each new team member is unique and worth celebrating. In our blog series, 'My time at HFG’, we sit down with our new colleagues to reflect on their first few months with us.
From insights into their experience to career growth and the challenges they've faced, this series offers a look into life at HFG. Get to know the people behind the scenes!
Next up is Jamie Rosenberg, who joined our Change & Technology team in January 2025.
The Journey
What attracted you to recruitment and, specifically, to HFG?
I wanted to work in a sociable environment with high performers. When I interviewed with the team and heard about the numbers they were reaching and how outgoing the market is, I thought it would be a great fit. It became clear that HFG had a strong team culture and a focus on both personal and professional development, which really appealed to me.
How did you find the onboarding process, and what stood out to you in your first few weeks?
My onboarding experience was really positive. The whole office was welcoming and made a genuine effort to help me settle in. I was given the support I needed whilst learning the ropes and felt comfortable asking questions from day one. What stood out the most was how approachable and helpful everyone was, regardless of their seniority. On top of that, being able to go to lunch with different colleagues during my first week made a huge difference. It helped me build relationships in a relaxed setting and made me feel like part of the team very quickly.
Experience at HFG
What has been the biggest learning experience for you since joining?
Understanding that job titles aren’t universal and there are different types of certain roles. Coming from an environment where everyone had straightforward job titles based on seniority, it was initially quite confusing to navigate the insurance market where the same title can mean different things across companies.
How would you describe the company culture at HFG?
It’s very sociable, inclusive, and welcoming. People here genuinely want each other to succeed, and there’s a great sense of camaraderie. It’s the kind of place where hard work is recognised, but you also have a lot of fun along the way.
Have there been any standout moments or highlights in your time here so far?
The first placement I made was a standout moment. There’s nothing quite like the feeling of seeing all your hard work pay off and knowing you've helped both a candidate and a client find the right match.
What’s the best piece of advice you’ve received from a colleague?
Be in the market, not on the market. It’s a simple phrase but has really stuck with me.
If you could give advice to someone considering a career in recruitment, what would it be?
Give it 100% and don’t take things personally. Recruitment has its highs and lows and it’s important to stay resilient and focused. Also, celebrate the wins, big or small. They keep you motivated.
Personal Interests
What’s something people might not know about you?
Despite working in recruitment, I’ve never had a cup of coffee!
If you weren’t in recruitment, what do you think you’d be doing?
I’d probably be back working in estate agency. It’s another people-focused industry that I enjoyed, but I felt recruitment offered more opportunity for growth.
How do you maintain a good work-life balance?
I’m lucky to have a great group of friends who all love football, which gives us an excuse to meet up regularly. Having that regular time outside of work to relax, socialise and do something I love really helps me switch off and stay balanced during busy weeks.
