I am currently recruiting for a leading Lloyd's Syndicate who are seeking a Lead Underwriter to join their growing London Regional team in the UK.

This person will be responsible for growing the UK PI book by writing and winning new business. Other products include; MLP, Cyber, Property and Casualty, enabling a comprehensive package policy offering.

My client is looking for someone who has a track record of winning business and has strong broker contacts in the London Regional space.

Key Responsibilities

  • Act as a recognised and trusted underwriter for Professional Indemnity within the London region.
  • Underwrite complex and high-value commercial cases profitably, across multiple lines including MLP, Cyber, Property and Casualty.
  • Lead the development and execution of the local underwriting strategy for your specialist area in collaboration with regional leadership.
  • Influence national underwriting appetite and strategy by working closely with UK Product Heads.
  • Take ownership of underwriting referrals for complex risks within and outside your region.
  • Lead underwriting and trading visits with key clients and prospects to support business growth.
  • Drive achievement of new business targets within the region.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with brokers to generate and convert new business opportunities.
  • Proactively prospect new clients to increase submission and conversion rates.
  • Support and mentor underwriters to enhance product-specific knowledge and sales capabilities.
  • Contribute to shaping underwriting propositions, pricing strategies, and sector appetite across strategic sectors.
  • Maintain a deep understanding of Professional Indemnity and broader insurance market trends, including underwriting lifecycles, pricing, policy wordings, and claims considerations.
  • Stay informed on market dynamics, including competitive landscape and changes in market conditions (e.g., hard/soft markets).
