Next up is Nidhi Menon, who joined our Actuarial team in February 2026.

The Journey

What attracted you to recruitment and, specifically, to HFG?
What attracted me to recruitment was the opportunity to build relationships and make a real difference to people's careers. I've always enjoyed working with people, learning what motivates them and helping them achieve their goals, so recruitment felt like a good fit.

HFG stood out because of its specialist focus within the insurance market. The chance to work in a niche sector, develop in-depth market knowledge and learn from experienced consultants really appealed to me.

How did you find the onboarding process, and what stood out to you in your first few weeks?
Although I had previous recruitment experience, joining HFG meant learning a completely new market. There was a lot to take in at first, but the onboarding process was well structured and made it much easier to understand the insurance industry and the different areas within it.

The support from the team made the biggest difference. Everyone was generous with their time and knowledge, and I was encouraged to get involved from day one. I liked having the freedom to take ownership of my work while knowing there was always someone happy to answer questions or offer guidance.

Experience at HFG so far

What has been the biggest learning experience for you since joining?
Actuarial recruitment has been especially interesting because it's such a specialist area. It's not just about knowing job titles; it's about understanding the skills, qualifications and career paths behind each role. There's definitely been a lot to learn, but that's also what has made it so rewarding. It's given me a real appreciation for the expertise within the industry.

How would you describe the company culture at HFG?
I'd describe HFG as welcoming, friendly and supportive. From the moment I joined, everyone made a genuine effort to help me settle in and feel part of the team. People are always willing to offer advice and help each other out.
What I enjoy most is that people celebrate each other's successes and genuinely want to see one another do well.

Have there been any standout moments or highlights in your time here so far?
The social side of HFG has definitely been a highlight. It’s a friendly and welcoming environment, and the social events make it easy to know people beyond your team.

What's the best piece of advice you've received from a colleague?
One piece of advice that's stayed with me is to focus on building relationships rather than chasing immediate results. Recruitment is a people business, and taking the time to understand someone's motivations, goals and circumstances usually leads to better outcomes for everyone.

If you could give advice to someone considering a career in recruitment, what would it be?
Be prepared to keep learning and don't be afraid to push yourself. Every day is different, and you'll constantly be learning about industries, roles and the people you speak to. Building strong relationships and being resilient are key.

Personal Interests

What's something people might not know about you?
I'm strangely fascinated by food history. I can spend far too long reading about things like how breakfast cereal was invented or what people were eating hundreds of years ago!

If you weren't in recruitment, what do you think you'd be doing?
Probably something in HR. I'm really interested in diversity and inclusion, so I'd likely be doing something more closely aligned with that.

How do you maintain a good work-life balance?
I make an effort to socialise during the week as well as at weekends. It helps me switch off after work and means I don't feel like I'm just waiting for the weekend to come around.
