Data Science & Insurance: Our first meetup in partnership with Milliman.
Last night marked an exciting milestone as we held our very first Data Science in Insurance Meetup, in collaboration with Milliman. The event was created to address a clear gap in the market - a lack of dedicated spaces for data science professionals within insurance to connect.
We were delighted to welcome a fantastic mix of data science professionals from across the market with plenty of networking taking place both before and after the panel discussion. It was clear there was a real appetite for this kind of event.
A brilliant panel discussion
A huge thank you goes to our outstanding panel; Sam Worthington, Grace Hymas, Ahmed Almubarak and Charlotte Halkett. HFG's Perry Jones hosted the discussion.
Key Takeaways
Several themes stood out across the evening:
The rapid evolution of AI and machine learning and how insurers are beginning to integrate these technologies into their decision-making processes.
The changing role of data scientists, with increasing collaboration across actuarial, underwriting and technology teams.
The importance of community, with many attendees highlighting the value of having a dedicated forum to connect with peers in similar roles.
Building a Community
One of the most encouraging aspects of the evening was the level of engagement from attendees. Conversations flowed well beyond the formal session, with professionals sharing experiences, challenges and ideas for the future.
It reinforced exactly why we created this event in the first place, to bring together a growing and increasingly important community within insurance.
Looking Ahead
Given the success of our first meetup, we’re looking forward to hosting more events that continue to support and grow the data science community within insurance.
A huge thank you to everyone who joined us.
We’re excited to be continuing this partnership with Milliman and will be hosting more Data Science in Insurance events in the future, so keep an eye out for the next one!
If you’d like to be involved in future events, we’d love to hear from you.
